What are Lithium Ion Batteries?

Lithium batteries are a type of rechargeable battery that uses lithium as a key component of their chemistry. Lithium batteries are known for their high energy density, which means they can store a lot of energy in a small space. In addition to their high energy density, lithium batteries are also relatively lightweight and have a long lifespan, making them a popular choice for many applications, such as Segways. The Li ion batteries are built specifically for the purpose of Segway use. So, you will not have to worry about safe use.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Each Segway requires two extended range batteries for the machine to function and operate. If you need more than one Segway battery, please order accordingly.

  • Yes, you can replace Segway batteries. However, make sure you ensure compatibility with your Segway model.

  • These Li ion batteries are rated at 1,000 charges. If well taken care of, they could last 10 years. The range will likely wear down by the end of its life.

  • The most common problem with a Segway that will not turn on is a dead battery. Check your Infokey and make sure that its battery is working as well. If you are unable to power on your Segway, we will provide service to figure it out over the phone.

  • You cannot overcharge your batteries. Your Segway has a smart charger and will not over charge (but you can undercharge if not plugged in).

  • We recommend that you keep your Segway plugged in if you are not using it. Leaving your Segway unplugged can ruin your batteries. You can’t over charge but you can under charge your batteries.

  • It is not necessary to replace both battery packs if one of them is still good. However, it is a good idea if they are older batteries to avoid further repair. If you still have a good battery we can help you determine how much life and capacity it has left.

  • Ninebot, a Chinese competitor, acquired Segway Inc. Later, the company decided to halt production of the Segways to pursue new products. We are still able to get Segway’s parts, repairs and even a new X2 or i2.

  • Red Lights when plugging in a Segway?

Red lights when you plug in your Segway (not to be confused with the 5 balance lights when your Segway is turned on) indicate a dead battery.

Green lights when plugging in a Segway?

Green lights are good and indicate your batteries are taking a charge.

No lights when plugging in a Segway?

Older Segway batteries that do not show any lights is probably very dead. The newer Segway batteries with no lights are fully charge.

How to Care for Your Segway Batteries

Here are some tips to ensure your Segway will operate at capacity and reduce future repairs.  Better care of the li ion means more money in your pocket.Better care of the li ion means more money in your pocket.

The li ion Segway Batteries should be stored in a temperature-controlled environment (70-80 degrees is optimal).  You should never leave your Segway unplugged from power for long periods of time (note: we recommend plugging your Segway in every night).

According to the manufacturer, the best battery care is to run your batteries all the way down and then charge them completely back up once per month.  This is challenging, but these Lithium Ion batteries want to be used.  You will find that your battery performance will decrease significantly in cold and freezing temperatures.

NEVER LEAVE YOUR BATTERIES UNPLUGGED FOR EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME, KEEP IT PLUGGED IN.

About Us

Our dealership has been in Nashville since 2006.  As you probably know Segway is no longer manufacturing the X2 or the i2 any longer.  This means that many Segway dealers have closed down and are no longer in business.  Our primary business is Segway tours, so we will be here for the long haul as an authorized segway dealer. Our segway battery comes with a 1 year manufacturer warranty.  If you have any issues, we will handle them directly and get issues repaired. Our business tries hard to keep our prices as low as possible, but if you find another dealer who has a lower price we do everything we can to beat it.
